Fresno County Sheriff's Office reaches more by delivering PSA in Punjabi

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Every year, countless people are saved from drowning through public PSAs – and now, thanks to one thoughtful decision, countless more could be saved in Fresno County.

In a June 29 social media video, Deputy Sidhu spoke to the Punjabi community in the Punjabi language to explain the importance of water safety.

It was the first time the sheriff’s office had included this population in these announcements – which, according to the California Health Report, is a large part of Fresno.

Per their data, there are an estimated 50,000 people of Punjabi descent living in the city, about half of whom do not speak English well.

These PSAs are also given in Spanish, the second most widely spoken language in Fresno behind English.

YourCentralValley.com reached out to the sheriff’s office to see if they will be delivering PSA in other languages.
