San Andreas Woodworker Earns Best Of Show At California State Fair

San Andreas, CA– A San Andreas woodworker has received one of the California State Fair’s highest honors for a handcrafted recreation of one of the state’s most iconic landmarks.

DeWayne Konz earned First Place, Best of Division in Wood Art and Best of Show in the Crafts competition for his detailed replica of the Seven Painted Ladies of San Francisco. The miniature took approximately six months to complete and was built from reclaimed 100-year-old California redwood. The piece features handcrafted porches, windows, staircases, rooflines, and other architectural details that recreate the famous Victorian homes.

Konz received the California State Fair’s prestigious Golden Bear Award, along with a rosette and ribbons, during an awards ceremony at Cal Expo in Sacramento. His award-winning creation is currently on display in the Crafts Building throughout the California State Fair.
