Fresno's mayor dances outside City Hall for Juneteenth

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno’s Mayor Jerry Dyer welcomed more than a hundred people to Fresno City Hall on Friday morning ahead of the annual Juneteenth flag-raising ceremony.

Dyer says the event was a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the rich diversity that continues to shape Fresno.

Mayor Dyer was seen among other participants in a group dance outside City Hall as part of the celebration, which can be seen in the video player above.

The Juneteenth holiday marks the day on June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas at the end of the Civil War with an order declaring the state’s enslaved people to be free with “absolute equality.”
