MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old multiple times during an Independence Day celebration at Bass Lake Saturday evening, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputies reported responding to the Pine Slope Day Use Area at Bass Lake for a stabbing just before 9 p.m.
Detectives determined 56-year-old Juan Carlos Muniz of Coarsegold was involved in an argument with a 25-year-old man that turned physical. During the fight, the 25-year-old was “violently stabbed.”
Due to the seriousness of his abdominal injuries, deputies say the victim was airlifted to a local hospital to undergo emergency surgery. The victim continues to recover in a stable condition.
Responding deputies reported finding Muniz nearby, and ultimately booked him into the Madera County Jail on a charge of attempted murder.
Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances and ask anyone with additional information to contact the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770.
