Vacant house fire damages nearby Fresno homes, forces evacuation, crews say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A vacant Fresno home nearly burned down neighboring homes after catching fire Friday night.

Crews say they started receiving calls just before 7:30 p.m.

On scene, crews were greeted by heavy fire coming from the vacant home. Unfortunately, the flames were also licking nearby occupied homes.

Crews say the eaves of the next-door neighbor’s home caught fire, with the flames spreading to the attic, but fortunately, crews were able to contain the blaze before it spread any further.

Meanwhile, the other neighboring home’s windows were cracked by the intense heat from the burning building. The occupants, however, were able to safely evacuate, and no injuries were reported.

According to crews, this is at least the second time this house has caught fire in the past year, and while the house itself is vacant, they believe someone is living in a unit in the backyard.
