INYO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A forest closure is in effect for Inyo National Forest until further notice.

The forest order went into effect Thursday, just three days after the Rock Fire ignited near the town of Aberdeen.

It affects multiple recreation sites, including the Sawmill Pass Trail, Red Lake Trail, Taboose Pass Trail, and Birch Lake Trail.

The off-limit areas are shown in yellow below.

Despite this new closure, the Rock Fire made minimal growth overnight, now mapping at 11,645 acres. Containment is also up to 18%.

Unfortunately, however, a threat to the Town of Big Pine remains.

As such, evacuation orders remain in place for zones:

• ICU-117-B
• ICU-123-A
• ICU-123-C
• ICU-123-D
• ICU-127
• ICU-129
• ICU-131-C
• ICU-137-D

Evacuation warnings are also in place for zones:

• ICU-131-B
• ICU-141
• ICU-143-A 
• ICU-143-B

The cause of the fire is under investigation; however, according to Cal Fire, the area has recently been impacted by lightning and thunderstorms.
