YOSEMITE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The family of a man who was swept down a nearly 600-foot waterfall in Yosemite National Park last month is pleading with the community to help bring him home to El Salvador.
“On June 20, 2026, our lives changed forever. Josué was involved in a tragic accident in Yosemite National Park, where he fell into a river and over a waterfall. What began as a normal day turned into a nightmare no family should ever have to endure,” a verified GoFundMe reads.
Josué’s family describes him as funny and charismatic, even when times are tough.
“He was more than a son, cousin, nephew, and friend – he was family in every sense of the word, and his absence is something we are still struggling to process,” his family wrote.
Amid their grief, Josué’s family is now pleading with the community to help bring him home to El Salvador, where he can be laid to rest.
“No mother should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child. Josué’s mother is now living through every parent’s worst nightmare for the second time. After already suffering the heartbreaking loss of her eldest son, she is now mourning Josué, her second eldest son. The pain of this loss is impossible to put into words,” the family wrote.
Anyone who would like to help bring Josué home to his family can donate here.
