HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A runaway teen carrying a loaded firearm was arrested for issuing threats and assault in Hanford Thursday night, according to police.
Hanford Police responded to a call for service around 9 p.m. of a reported assault at the Thursday Night Market Place in Civic Park. The victim described the aggressor as a juvenile male wearing a gray hoodie and black pants, according to Handford Police. The victim said that the male assaulted her and brandished a firearm.
Another person called dispatch and said the same male had a gun showing in his waistband and threatened to shoot her, according to police. Officers then found the suspect and attempted to apprehend him. The teen allegedly ignored instructions from officers and sprinted through the market.
Police say the juvenile dropped the handgun near Wimpy’s Burgers while officers pursued him. They say the teen attempted to retrieve the weapon and was then apprehended by officers.
Investigators determined that the weapon was a ghost gun, which is a privately made handgun. The weapon did not have a serial number and was fully loaded with 9mm ammunition.
Police found that the suspect is a 16-year-old runaway from Sacramento after a record check. The teen was booked into the King’s County Juvenile Center.
The runaway is facing eight charges, including assault, carrying a firearm in public, and issuing criminal threats, according to Hanford Police.
