Plans for Fresno zoo include zipline, train, and new animals

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is getting a new exhibit, and according to plans from the zoo authority, it could include a zipline, a train, and a plethora of new animals.

While the zoo didn’t confirm the details of the exhibit, they did say they are “currently in the pre-design phase of the California Exhibit, and plans in this space continue to evolve.”

Per the most current map released by the Zoo Authority, the exhibit will take visitors on a tour through four ecosystems, starting at the Sierras, with “wolf ridge,” “elk meadow,” and the rock-climbing wall.

Next visitors will have the chance to go through the foothills and see “bear meadow,” or take a detour through the activity zone— the mock-up for this zone includes a water play area, food service, and an eagle habitat.

Further down, visitors will find the Central Valley, with the “Wetlands Pool.” A habitat to the north of this area will house quail, squirrels, and burrowing owls. There will also be bobcat, mountain lion, and beaver habitats to the south.

Finally, visitors end at the Coastal Range, where they can find “Sea Lion Cove” and the “Redwood Forest,” before winding down on the events lawn.

The plans also include a train that runs along the south edge of the exhibit, and a “Soaring Eagle Zipline Ride” between the foothills and activity zone.
