Update as of April 7, 2026 - Prescribed burn rescheduled for April 8 & 9 on the Lower West Fork prescribed burn area
Please continue to follow this post as conditions may change.

Firefighters are preparing to reduce hazardous fuels in the Lower West Fork burn area, 6 miles southwest of Conner, MT, west of Hwy 473 between Christisen and Lloyd Creeks. To see this area, please refer to the Bitterroot National Forest proposed prescribed burn map at http://tiny.cc/PrescribedBurnMap

275 acres are planned. Hand ignitions will be used April 8 and an uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) will be used for ignitions April 9. Firefighters will actively track and extinguish remaining heat April 10 to 12. No closures are expected.

Smoke impacts may be expected to the West Fork Valley from Christisen Creek north to Conner, MT.

This prescribed burn is being accomplished to restore fire on the landscape in dry, fire dependent, low severity, high frequency fire regimes.
