TXTXS Lefty Fire

TXTXS Lefty Fire

The Lefty Fire started at approximately 2:00 PM on April 2, 2026, approximately 25 miles west of Childress, TX and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance with aircraft, heavy equipment and firefighters. The fire is currently in joint command between Texas A&M Forest Service and local firefighters.

As of 6:30 PM, forward progression of the fire has not been stopped. Aviation resources are making good progress on the heel of the fire, connecting to dozer lines. Burnout operations are currently underway. Heavy equipment is making good progress on the left flanks of the fire. Equipment is working on getting engaged on the right flank. 

4/2/26 8:00 PM - Forward progression has been slowed, but not stopped. Good progress is being made on the left flank of the fire - two slop overs have been mitigated. Heavy equipment is currently working on the right flank of the fire.
