K9 helps Coalinga officers find bags of narcotics during stop

COALINGA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A K9 with the Coalinga Police Department helped officers find multiple bags of narcotics and a smoking device during an enforcement stop Sunday.

On Sunday, at around 10 p.m., officers stopped a driver in the parking lot of Fastrip for vehicle code violations.

Officers said they noticed that the driver, who has been identified as Brennan Charles Johnson, was nervous and had inconsistencies when speaking with the officers.

Based on what the officers saw and the indicators of criminal activity occurring, officers asked the driver if they could search the vehicle.

Police said that Johnson didn’t consent to the search, so they deployed K9 Boss to sniff the exterior of the vehicle.

Boss positively alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics from the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

After K9 Boss alerted the officers, they had probable cause and searched the vehicle. Police said they found multiple bags of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a smoking device.

Johnson was said to be traveling to Los Angeles from Salinas. He was booked into the Coalinga Police Department Temporary Holding facility. He was later released with a citation to appear in Fresno County Superior Court.
