The A and R Fire started on the afternoon of February 24, 2026 approximately 1 miles southeast of Linden, Texas and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local fire departments. 

This fire started during a period of elevated fire weather, including higher than normal temperatures, and low fuel moisture levels. These current conditions are resulting in a shift of large fire potential with brief periods of high resistance to control.
