OAKHURST, CA – Community members will have a chance to tap into their artistic side while supporting local student theater when the Golden Chain Theatre hosts a Paint Party Fundraiser titled Moonlit Meadow in partnership with the Yosemite High School Theater Boosters.

The event brings together the long-standing foothill playhouse and supporters of high school performing arts for an evening designed to raise funds, build connections between generations of performers, and strengthen the region’s arts community.

Participants will be guided step-by-step through creating their own painting inspired by a moonlit Sierra landscape. No prior experience is required, making the fundraiser accessible to both seasoned artists and first-time painters. Proceeds will benefit the Yosemite High School Theater Boosters, which help fund costumes, sets, travel, technical equipment, and production costs for student shows throughout the school year.

Yosemite High School Theatre BoostersSupporting the next generation of performers

The Yosemite High School Theater Boosters play a key role in ensuring students can participate in theatrical productions regardless of financial barriers. Booster clubs like this often provide behind-the-scenes support that keeps school arts programs thriving — from organizing volunteers and fundraising to helping maintain stage infrastructure and production quality.

For students interested in careers in theater, communications, design, or performance, these programs provide hands-on experience that extends far beyond the classroom. Events such as the paint fundraiser allow community members to directly invest in those opportunities while enjoying a social, creative evening.

A cornerstone of foothill performing arts

Founded in 1967, Golden Chain Theatre has grown into one of the Sierra foothills’ longest-running community theaters, producing musicals, dramas, and family shows that draw performers and audiences from across the Yosemite area. The nonprofit playhouse’s mission focuses on offering high-quality live entertainment while creating opportunities for local actors, technicians, and volunteers to develop their craft.

Over the decades, Golden Chain Theatre has served as both a training ground for emerging performers and a cultural gathering space for the region, reinforcing its reputation as a hub for community-driven arts.

What’s ahead at Golden Chain Theatre

Woods, the Stephen Sondheim musical that blends familiar fairy-tale characters with deeper themes about responsibility and community. The show opens in late March and runs through early May, continuing the theater’s tradition of staging ambitious productions that combine music, storytelling, and local talent.

The paint fundraiser offers an early opportunity for residents to reconnect with the theater before the spring season begins, while also helping nurture the next generation of performers at Yosemite High School.

Building community through the arts

Organizers say the fundraiser highlights how local arts groups can collaborate to strengthen the cultural fabric of the foothills. By bringing together students, volunteers, artists, and patrons, the event underscores a shared goal: ensuring that live theater and arts education remain vibrant parts of the mountain community.

For those interested in supporting student theater, enjoying a creative evening, or reconnecting with Golden Chain Theatre, the Moonlit Meadow Paint Party offers a chance to do all three in one night.
