KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was arrested after a pursuit in Kings County where he crashed into an embankment and fled into a canal, deputies said Wednesday.
Deputies said on Feb. 10, they responded to the area of Niles Avenue and 5 1/2 Avenue regarding the theft of a truck and trailer.
Approximately an hour after the reported theft, deputies located the stolen truck and saw the man getting into the truck.
The truck was pursued by deputies, and the driver, who was identified as Luciano Navarro, failed to yield.
He stayed mainly on canal banks and dirt roads throughout the pursuit, which lasted for about an hour before authorities say he crashed into an embankment and fled into a canal.
Deputies said Navarro was currently under investigation for equipment thefts that had occurred in the last few months in the unincorporated areas of Kings County.
After Navarro’s arrest, deputies said they recovered two vehicles, a trailer, two skid steers, two backhoes and two loaders. The equipment, worth approximately $410,000, was returned to its rightful owners.
