Man severely beaten in Clovis dies, mother says

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man who was severely beaten along a canal in Clovis passed away Saturday afternoon, his mother confirmed.

37-year-old Geoffrey Bernardi has been on life support since Thursday after Clovis police said he had been severely beaten beyond recognition.

Officers reported the assault took place along a canal bank near Barstow Avenue and Highway 168 after Bernardi left his apartment for a walk.

Bernardi was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries, but was ultimately placed on life support. Erin Adams, Bernardi’s mother, confirmed with YourCentralValley.com that he was pronounced deceased Saturday afternoon.

Adams says her family is devastated and hopes someone comes forward with information.

“The whole family is a mess,” she said on Friday. “I come from a very big family with lots of children and grandchildren, and this is very, very hard.”

Bernardi was also an employee with the Clovis Unified School District.

Clovis police are asking anyone who lives in the area and has a Ring camera or other surveillance system to check their footage between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning and report anything suspicious.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Clovis Police Department at 559-324-2800.
