FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 2-year-old girl who was partially ejected from a car after it crashed into an SUV on Wednesday morning has been pronounced dead, according to an update from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP says its officers responded at around 10 a.m. to the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Jefferson Avenue, outside Easton, for a report of a crash. Officers arrived to find that a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Tahoe had collided in the intersection.
According to the CHP, a 28-year-old woman was driving a Honda Civic northbound on Walnut Avenue when, at the same time, a 17-year-old boy driving a Chevrolet Tahoe was going eastbound on Jefferson Avenue. Officers say the driver of the Honda failed to stop at a stop sign and went into the path of the Chevrolet Tahoe, resulting in what officers described as a “violent collision.”

The occupants of the Honda Civic, the 2-year-old girl and the 28-year-old woman, both died following the crash; the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers say neither the 28-year-old nor the 2-year-old was wearing a seat belt inside the vehicle; the 2-year-old also did not have a car seat.
The occupants of the Chevrolet Tahoe, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, were both wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries in the crash, officers say.
The crash remains under investigation. The identities of those involved have not been officially released.
