MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man in Madera was arrested after a “senseless act of violence” put the lives of a family at risk, the Madera Police Department announced.
Police say on Saturday they responded to a reported shooting on Georgia Lane, where they learned a man intentionally fired several rounds into an apartment. At the time, a family with small children was inside.
Investigators soon identified the suspect as 26-year-old Andrew Murillo, who has a history of gang crimes. Officers add Murillo is a convicted felon and on Post Release County Supervision for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Sunday morning, detectives took Murillo into custody and say a search warrant found him to be possession of a firearm and ammunition. It was later determined the family inside was not Murillo’s intended target and was no more than a “senseless act of violence.”
No one was injured, however, police say Murillo remains in custody on charges of attempted murder and multiple firearm-related charges.
