Living in Mariposa County means embracing the beauty of nature—and the responsibility of wildfire preparedness. Fortunately, several free, grant-funded programs are available to help residents reduce wildfire risk and protect their homes. Whether you're a homeowner, renter, or landowner, these resources are designed to support you.
Mariposa Fire Safe Council – Brushing & Chipping Services
The Mariposa Fire Safe Council (MFSC) offers free chipping services to all residents who stack vegetation properly along driveways or roadsides. For low-income (PG&E CARE Program) or disabled residents, MFSC also provides brushing services to help create the 100-foot defensible space required by law. These services are available through the 2022–2025 CalFire grant program.
