Chippewa National Forest is planning prescribed fire operations starting as early as today (April 2, 2025) in the Wagner, Farley South and Morph Meadows units. Operations are dependent on current and forecasted local weather conditions. The planned controlled burn acreage total is approximately 32-acres, located on the Blackduck Ranger District. 

• The Farley South (17 acres) and Morph Meadows (2 acres) units are located approximately 4 miles northeast of Pennington and just east of FS Road 2204.
• The Wagner Unit (13 acres) is located approximately 3 miles east of Alvwood and 1 mile south of County Road 29.   

The Forest uses prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from wildfires.

Residents may experience smoke during prescribed burns. Go to www.airnow.gov to find more detailed information about air quality. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road. 

We estimate this work to continue through the spring as weather conditions allow.
